Pizza Masonable

Here is a #Masonable for the kid in everyone. The Pizza Masonable! This jar is just assembly really. Buy your favorite pizza ingredients and pack them to go. Now this jar looks a little empty. It just did not fit in a half pint jar. It was close but just didn't make it. So I used a pint jar. So there is room in that jar for more pizza toppings. Maybe veggies, olives or Canadian bacon anyone? Just load it up. Just between us once you assemble you little pizza you can heat it in the microwave until the cheese melts. YUM! Hot or cold these little pizzas are a great snack or lunch.

So now that is four different Masonables for your lunch.
And I still have two more ideas to come. So keep visiting.
I hope to have them up soon.

Shrimp Cocktail Masonable

Here it comes another #Masonable idea! This might be my favorite so far. The idea for this Masonable came from dear sister. Mom, sis and I were enjoying some boiled crawfish at home. She asked if I had a little disposable cup for cocktail sauce. I said I have those fruit cups? She grabbed three and brought cocktail sauce to each of us. That is when it hit me, wouldn't a shrimp cocktail make an awesome lunch. So guess what I made the very next day. The Shrimp Cocktail Masonable! So easy! Think about this! You could make a ton of these and put them in a bowl of ice for an outdoor party. Such an easy make ahead summer party appetizer. With or without crackers this would make great party food. You could use any number of dipping sauces too. Try Deckhand Sauce or Piri Piri Sauce or Kickin' Po Boy Sauce or even Thai Style Peanut Dipping Sauce. So many possibilities. I think I need more shrimp.

Masonables

I think we already discussed that an empty Fruit Cup + Mason Jar = delicious snacks and lunches! And even breakfast or dessert! Well now introducing the Masonable! It is the Mason Jar equivalent to a Lunchable. Check this out those fruit cups fit on top of a wide mouth Mason jar too. Now you can pack your crackers on top of your Tuna Salad, Chicken Salad, Egg Salad, or Deli Meat and Cheese. You can make your own Mason jar lunchable or a Masonable.

You might ask why not just put your crackers in a food storage bag? Well they could easily be crushed by a heavy soda can or bottle of water in your lunch bag. With the mason jar and fruit cup they have their own protective bubble. The crackers arrive to your lunch destination in their original shape. Doesn't that make meal prep a little exciting?

Well when I started thinking about lunches that included crackers, the first lunch that came to mind was tuna salad. So that is what I did first. It worked perfectly! I used our family recipe but you could use any recipe you like. Just fill the jar, top with the lid, stack up round crackers you love, cover with an inverted fruit cup and the ring. You are ready to go. So easy!

Tuna Salad Masonable
Serves 1

Supplies

1 wide mouth half pint Mason jar
1 empty fruit cup

Ingredients

8 round crackers
1 cup Tuna Salad

Directions

Fill mason jar with tuna salad. Place lid on top of jar. Stack crackers on lid. Place fruit cup inverted on top of crackers and lid. Add mason jar ring to secure everything in place. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Guess what! You can use two fruit cups with each mason jar. One inside the jar and one on top. The ring still secures the jar. Now you can pack crackers and a sauce. Think about what that could do for Mason Jar Salads? You can have your salad, dressing and crackers or croutons too! Am I too excited? I might be. Anyway...

Many, many years ago when Lunchables first came out, dear sister's favorite was one that came with a little packet of herb mayo. They do not sell anything like that today and she still mentions it now and then. So when I was thinking about making these Masonables I wanted to include one with a sauce. So here it is a Ham & Cheese Masonable with a Dill Mayo. This mayo is delicious with ham and cheese. The dill and mustard makes it zesty. It is also great with turkey and cheese too.

Ham and Cheese Masonable
Serves 1

Supplies

1 wide mouth pint Mason jar
2 empty fruit cups

Ingredients

8 round crackers
2 slices of cheese, quartered
4 slices of ham, halved and folded
Dill Mayo (recipe below)

Directions

Fill mason jar with slices of ham and cheese. Place one fruit cup in the top of the jar and spoon in the dill mayo. Place lid on top of the cup. Stack crackers on lid. Place fruit cup inverted on top of crackers and lid. Add mason jar ring to secure everything in place. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Dill Mayo
Serves 1

Ingredients

1 Tbsp. Mayonnaise
1/2 tsp. grainy Dijon mustard
1/8 tsp. dill, dry

Directions

Combine well and serve. Keep refrigerated until ready to use.

I hope this meal prep idea will help you with your future lunches. Don't forget to pack a fruit cup too! You need more empties to make more Masonables. And watch out for more Masonables in the future. I have at least four more ideas to try out.

Recycle Tip: Fruit Cups + Mason Jars

Look at this! Did you know that those little individual fruit cups fit perfectly in the top of a wide mouth mason jar. Well at least the Dole brand does. I suspect others do too. How brilliant is that?! Now you can keep all kinds of things neatly separated from others when you pack your lunch or snack. That little cup that would normally be thrown away can be recycled. Use it to keep dry ingredients separate from wet ingredients or visa versa. I did a lot of food prep using this idea this week. I made snacks and lunches.

Perhaps my favorite snack was the Cheese, Fruit and Nut Jars I made. I got the idea after purchasing Sargentos Balanced Breaks. They are a great afternoon snack and so easy to make your self. You can use your favorite cheese, dried fruit and nuts. The fruit cup and a wide mouth half pint jar makes it easy to make many ahead of time. I made several with two different types of cheese. Everything including the nuts kept their original texture even after spending days in the refrigerator. Here is what I put in each jar:

1 oz. of cheese, cubed
2 Tbsp. dried fruit
2 Tbsp. mixed nuts

Everyone has heard of Mason Jar Salads by now. But with the fruit cup and a wide mouth quart size jar you can pack your salad with dressing or crunchy toppings separate until lunch. I made a few with artichokes, tomatoes, poached chicken, salad greens, Parmesan cheese and Italian dressing in the cup.
It made a great light easy to carry lunch.

Another of my favorites was a Hummus and Veggies Snack Jar. I used a fruit cup and a wide mouth pint size jar. I cut up carrot, celery and red bell pepper into sticks. Then I put plain hummus in each fruit cup. Here is where I added variety to my snacks. I topped some with minced pickled jalapeno and some with minced sundried tomato then a drizzle of olive oil. You can use any selection of veggies and hummus. If prepping for a family everyone can have their favorite. You can buy store bought hummus or make your own.

Check out this link for more Hummus recipes.

Last but certainly not least I packed my Chicken Tortilla Soup with the cheese and tortilla chips. I used one fruit cup and two wide mouth pint size jars. I put the soup in one jar and the chips in another. I put the cheese in the fruit cup and placed it on top of the chip jar. Then I put both in the refrigerator. Again the chips kept their crunchy texture even after being in the frig for days. This meal prep idea is going to make life very easy.

Want the soup recipe follow the link below:

The possibilities for meal prep with these little fruit cups are endless!
So get out there and eat more fruit.

Some other ideas not pictured here:

Make your own Fruit, Yogurt and Toppings

Keep spreads like Nutella, Peanut Butter or Almond Butter
separate from your fruit, Crackers or Pretzel Rods

Keep Protein, Rice or Grains separate from your Salad
so you can warm them before adding to your salad

Keep your Dips separate from your Chips

Or keep cold things like sour cream separate so you can warm your chili
